Kids In Motion Summer Camp

KIDS IN MOTION

I started Kids in Motion in 2013 because I couldn’t find any summer camps in the Dundas area that focused less on skills related or sports specific techniques and more on fun outdoor play in a non competitive environment. So, I created Kids in Motion. A sports camp that focuses less on specific sports skills and more on unstructured play in a structured environment. Kids still learn basic fundamentals of the given sport we play but the emphasis is on fun and fun ONLY.

THE CAMP

The camp is for any child of any gender, ethnicity, gender identity and sports skill from age 5 to 13. Please note, the kids all play together. Please understand, I DO NOT separate the kids into groups based on their age or skill level, everyone plays together. Don’t worry if your child isn’t an athlete, this camp is for everyone no matter their athletic skill level. Please understand that at my camp, your child will run and jump all day, get dirty, possibly scrape a knee, be exhausted by the end of the day and most of all, have a great time and leave with a big smile on their faces. My #1 rule for the kids is “to get as dirty as you possibly can”

CAMP LOCATION

The camp is hosted in the beautiful Dundas Driving Park. The park has fantastic amenities. Clean washrooms, pavilions that we use for lunch and shade when needed, sports fields and open grass areas, a beach volleyball and basketball court, 2 separate kids play areas, a splash pad that we frequent daily to cool off and the forested area where we play Capture The Flag and Manhunt all afternoon.

SPORTS WE PLAY

The sports that we play are Soccer, Flag Football, Basketball and the kids favorite, Sandball, which is played in the beach volleyball court. All the sports are played in the morning when it’s not as hot. The afternoon time is filled with playing Manhunt and Capture in the forested area of the Driving Park. Throughout the week, your child will not only be running, jumping, climbing and getting dirty but they will also learn skills on how to better work together, learn to communicate with one another, organize themselves into groups and I help the older kids to develop their leadership skills.

HIKE DAY

On Thursday afternoon we hike to Spencer Gorge, which is below both Webster's and Tew's Falls. The hike from Dundas Driving Park is about 30 mins. When we arrive at our destination in the gorge the kids are encouraged to sit and eat lunch. Once we finish lunch the kids grab a net, walkout into the stream and proceed to try and catch Crayfish. We do this for about an hour. After catching Crayfish we all go swimming and rock jumping in the rock pools. The counsellors are in the water with the kids for safety purposes and all the kids are encouraged to swim and jump off the rocks but are not forced too if they do not wish too. You can view videos and pics of this day on our Instagram or Facebook page.

BUS TRIP

We started our bus trips in 2016 & 17 and we went to Gravity Indoor Rock Climbing and in 2018 & 19 we went to Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park. Last year 2023 was our return to our bus trip since Covid and we went to Discipline Ninja Warrior Parkour Ancaster. This year, 2024 we will be heading back to Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park on Upper James in Hamilton. The bus departs from the Dundas Driving Park at 9 am and returns us back to the Driving Park at approximately 1:30pm.
